Watch our video for inspiration. on September 17, 2016 at 1:18 PM OLD BRIDGE TWP., N.J. -- A barn fire left one pony dead and a well-known pony party business devastated on Sept. 8. Debbie Molnar has run All American Ponies for the past 25 years.

She had ponies as a child, and showed from age 7 to 20. Her family also had Standardbred racehorses, and her sister Laurie Molnar still has racehorses at Crystal Brook Farm, in Colts Neck. When Debbie Molnar first encountered pony party businesses, she thought it was something she could do. Her business has grown and she provides pony rides at many venues, including Terhune Orchard and Winery, in Princeton; the Middlesex County Fair; the Colts Neck Fair and between 12 and 15 street fairs annually. For about 10 years, Molnar provided pony rides at Cheesequake Farms, in Old Bridge, during their Oktoberfest celebrations. She still has 14 ponies, aged 2 to 30. Most of them are Shetland size. While she acquired some of the ponies from local auctions, most come to her from people who can no longer care for them. In the early morning hours of Sept. 8, she went out on her back deck to let her three dogs relieve themselves. She could see the barn clearly from there, and everything looked fine.

She went back to bed and dozed off, but was soon woken up by her dogs barking. She then went outside and saw the barn in flames. When asked about the origin of the fire, Molnar replied that the fire marshal deemed it electrical. She said the barn had minimal electricity. Although she had recently installed brand-new fans to help keep the animals cool in the heat, those fans were turned off that night, according to Molnar. As bad as the fire was, it could have been much worse. The only pony in the barn was Peaches, an older, half-blind mare. While Peaches succumbed to the flames, the other 14 ponies, four horses, two sheep, a donkey and a goat were all outside and unharmed. The surviving ponies include Peaches' 2-year-old filly, Blondie. The seven barn cats also survived. "Depending on the weather, we could have had 20 [animals] in there," said Molnar. She said some of the ponies in a field adjacent to the barn actually moved a water tub and got themselves into another field to avoid the heat and flames.
