Here are a few behind-the-scenes photos with Handy Magazine we took of the installation. Click on each to enlarge the image. 1. Laying the foundation. Dig out a foundation for the oven so that the frame fits just inside. Make sure the top of the frame is level on all sides. Dig holes for four footings near the corners of the frame. After your concrete has cured for at least two days, you can begin building your base. 2. Building the base. You can face your oven with any number of materials to suit your style. This installation is using Indiana Limestone. Secure each course with a landscaping adhesive. To ensure that each course is level and square, use a rubber mallet as needed. To make minor adjustments to the block, use an angle grinder. A wet saw is required to cut full blocks to size. 3. Horizontal support base. The typical horizontal support base stands 42 inches high, and is finished with a 4-inch-thick, steel-reinforced concrete slab. Our bundle kit includes an 18-guage galvannealed steel plate.

Lay this on top of your support base. Three insulating boards are also included in the bundle kit. Secure these on the galvannealed steel plate before lifting the dome into position. 4. Dome and hearth placement. Lift and center the dome into place. You will need several people for this step as the CBO-750 dome weighs 500 lbs. Once you’ve centered the oven on your support base, insert the two “wing” hearth pieces inside the dome. The pieces should fit snug against the dome walls. Then slide the center hearth piece into position. Shimmy the two wing hearth pieces back as close to the center hearth piece as possible. 5. Anchor box attachment. Attach the chimney anchor box to the dome assembly by aligning the pre-drilled holes; the bolts are included in your kit. Next, lay the insulating blanket over the top of the oven. Cut a hole in the insulating blanket for the flue pipe, and cut the blanket to line up with the front of the oven. 6. Arch and door attachment.
