Sonny's big brother Tom handed him a gift. "I opened it up, and it was a drill, and everybody started laughing," Sonny remembers with a smile. "They thought it was a big joke." And it was funny. Sonny didn't own tools, didn't use tools, didn't like tools. He was a suit-and-tie guy, a manager at a luxury car dealership in the San Francisco Bay Area. Then Tom announced something that made another happy wave of laughter break over the family. "This power drill," he told Sonny, "is going to make you a lot of money one day." As Sonny now marvels eight years later, "It was like he saw the future." The first step toward Tom's prediction coming true happened soon. Sonny decided to step outside his comfort zone and try a home-improvement project. "I put up a medicine cabinet, and I used that drill for it," Sonny remembers. "And I was like, 'This is a piece of cake!'" To his total surprise, Sonny loved doing little jobs around the house and, as long as he did some research beforehand, he was actually good at it.

He hatched a plan to make his family a little extra money and posted an online classified ad. A woman one hour down the freeway saw the ad and hired Sonny to install a curtain rod. Sonny had never installed a curtain rod. He studied up and went for it. "I was so nervous," he says. But he did it well and made $16. More people hired him, and he shouldered a grueling schedule of rising early and falling into bed late, doing handyman jobs both before and after his shifts at the luxury car dealership. Sonny spent seven years in a limbo of enjoying his handyman work so much that he wanted to switch careers but always coming up short when he crunched the numbers to answer his biggest question: Could he still provide for his wife and three kids if he walked away from the good money he made in the car business? Even as he explored new websites for connecting him with customers, "It wasn't something that was even close to replacing my income." Then came the spring of 2015 and the launch of Amazon Home Services, which offers customers a way to schedule hundreds of services from house cleaning to wall mounting a new TV.

Sonny's reputation earned him a chance to be one of the handpicked pros featured on Amazon. On the first day, dozens of customers hired Sonny and immediately filled his schedule for the next three weeks. Sonny couldn't know what the second day would bring, but he sensed that this was the greatest opportunity he'd ever have to show his skills, deliver for his many new customers, earn more customers, and build the life he wanted for his family and himself. He gave notice at the car dealership. As Sonny built his reputation on Amazon, he soon got more jobs than he could do himself. He could hire, but he'd need to find people who could live up to the great reviews that made customers hire him in the first place. So he was very selective. Nine months after the launch of Amazon Home Services, Sonny has 12 technicians working for him, and 99 percent of his reviews from Amazon customers are positive. "I go above and beyond in everything I do and make sure everybody's happy because this is my long-term business," Sonny says.

And how about all the family members who were there on Christmas when Sonny's big brother gave him that drill? If you are looking for a form that you do not see listed below, please contact the web-editor.We are a group who wants to expand, but not to the point , that it becomes so big,  that it becomes less personal.   We meet about four-five  times  per week.   We are all single, however,  there are some couples who have met during the course of this club's existence. Yes, we are all  39 and over, and we are all "holding".  We are Baby Boomers and most of us are closer to 55-65.  We are mostly from the West Valley but certainly not limited to those areas. We do pool shooting, movies, dinners, karaoke, baseball games, bowling, trivia, concerts, and dancing, just to name a few activities. 

This group does a lot of volunteering, and philanthropic projects, such as collections several  times a year for less fortunate people.  These Meet-ups are all on a volunteer basis, and  none are mandatory to participate in. In the past  we have collected prom dresses for teenage girls,   school supplies for needy families, blankets for homeless people, and we fed the homeless and made them gift bags at Christmas. We also have house parties, and usually they are potlucks and BYOBeverage affairs. These house parties are for Established members only.  In order to become Established, you must have met an Organizer or the host of the party in person, prior to the event.  Due to the ways of the world,  then and only then, is a new member invited into private  homes. We collect monies for dues, birthday party expenses, etc., by passing a piggy bank around once in awhile, and each person donates a dollar or more.  You can also use the Chip-in feature. We are a real down to earth bunch, and pride ourselves in being friendly, and welcoming.
