Jaguar Heating & AirMustafa, You were heaven sent, you answered my questions and put my mind at ease, and finished the job long before the timeframe the others had given me, not to mention that you went to bat for me with the Trane distributor. Not only did you beat the price of what the others quoted me, you made our transaction go smoothly, conveniently and easy. You have no idea, I had talked to 3 other Air Conditioning Contractors who were not co-operative, very abrasive and non-negotiable, nobody would go to bat for me, it was a take it or leave it attitude. One told me my warranty had expired and if I had not called the distributor myself to get the truth, I would have paid full price for all parts and labor. He did not negotiate with them or go to bat for me, he came back to me and said, “Sorry your warranty expired, the five year warranty is measured from when the equipment is made, not from when it is installed.” The full price was going to be $780 for parts and $450 for labor.
I was so upset, almost to tears, I called the manufacturer direct, they told me, I am fully covered, the warranty is five years from when the unit is installed. I fully trust you and will never do business with anyone else for my Central Heating and Air conditioning unit. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Mr. Handyman serving Arden ArcadeUnfair Trip ChargeMr Handyman is a decent company. They are courteous and do good work. However, beware of the hidden trip charge. If your repair requires parts that need to be special ordered, the company will charge you another trip service fee to deliver those parts to finish the project. Bacially, plan to spend $55 every time they visit you. I was told I only had to pay for the parts and would not be charge additional fees. The owner was unconcerned about my complaint, stating that someone had to pay for the technician's time. Jaguar Heating & AirThe technician, Mustafa just left my home. Some are general tradesmen, who have a variety of experiences. Others have licenses and training in electrical work or plumbing. The key is asking what their level of experience is for the type of work you need done. Before you call a handyman, know what you need done along with any important details.
You'll want an in-home consultation so that you can walk through the project. Can I verify your license, insurance and bonding?Handyman licensing varies from state to state however it's a good question to ask your handyman. You'll also want to verify the dollar amounts for their surety bond (a third party that can cover payments in case the handyman doesn't pay subcontractors or employees) as well as insurance (in case they damage your property or injure themselves). How much will this project cost? After the handyman has had a chance to walk through the project, have him or her outline the scope of work. The details of the project, including labor, materials, supplies, rental equipment, or subcontractors, should be listed as separate line items. If you are on a tight budget or timeline, this is the time to discuss options or alternatives for your project. If the project is small, like hauling debris or performing minor repair work, the handyman should request payment when the job is complete.
For larger projects that require ordering of materials or multiple subcontractors, it's more common to pay a deposit.Do I need a permit for this project?Obtaining proper permits for home improvement is the responsibility of the homeowner. But very often professional file the permits on behalf of the homeowner and should have a good understanding of the process. When the structure of the home is altered, or when changes are made to the electrical system or gas lines, you may need to file a permit. Discuss your particular project with your handyman and ask if a permit is required.May I have several references?A good handyman should be happy to share references. Anywhere from three to five past clients should be able to give you a good idea about the handyman's work style, ability to get the job done, and the satisfaction when the job is complete. If a homeowner wasn't satisfied with the handyman, be sure you ask specifically why. Sometimes miscommunication can contribute to unsatisfied customers.
