Hawaii Businesses For Sale: Well, who'd a thunk! It gets good reviews and seems busy enough for dinner. Never understood why they didn't try breakfast and lunch. Seems like the right person could make it work depending on the lease and how much they want. Any guesses on what they do on the cash register in an average month? I saw Mermaids for sale on Craigslist for around 50K a couple months ago, but don't see it now. Restaurants have a tough time holding on here. Like their food, don't care for the restaurant itself and they never did figure out that having the music so loud you can't hear yourself think is a poor decision. We see the restaurants come and go.....and we also see the ones that are doing well and the ones that are struggling. Those who take some time to relate to the residents, and have some reasonable prices, good service and good food, and share aloha, seem to be doing pretty well. Those who charge resort prices, and only cater to the visitors, and are not on resort property are having problems.
Only the visitors can afford to spend in the hundreds of dollars for a dinner. And that is fine, but we who live here cannot, or only on special occassions. We have eaten at the Eastside, I believe twice, and it was excellent, food and service. My problem is that the acoustics were pretty loud, even without live music, which took away the ability to share conversations. Im sorry, however, that they are not going to remain in business. Just across the road, where visitors and residents like enjoy going, is the Olympic cafe. They have outstanding food, they are freindly, it is fun, the service is with aloha, and their prices are affordable to most every one. We stop there when we have been hiking the east shore trails, or to meet halfway with TA friends who are up in that area or further north. We love it, when places like Dukes, have a special, like their Taco Tuesdays, and we really enjoy that. Yep, a resort restaurant that allows us to join in the fun along with meeting interesting visitors.
Same with Keoikis Paradise, with their sunset specials, that are excellent, with great service, and easy going attitude, and wonderful tropical ambiance. Always high on smiles, and friendliness. And, of late, we have found Merrimans uptairs, and on sundays they have kamaaina specials, that we really enjoyed for our once a month special dinner out. Wonderful service, great personalities, and excellent meals. And, this next week, after checking out Tortilla Republic, downstairs bar and restaurant three different times......great spot, super friendly, neat and fun atmosphere........we are going to dinner at the upstairs dining room with local friends. Oh, and day before yesterday at the harbor mall, Erica went for a massage...therapuditc type...at ME TIME....and then we had an easy dinner at the FERAL PIG.....I was there a little early, and talked story with the new owners and staff. We just had drinks and their delicious hamburgers, and skinny fries that reminded me kinda of shoe string potatoes.....they also have great breakfasts anf lunches at reaonable prices for those who are in the area of the Lihue Marriot.
as mentioned by others, businesses and restaurants come and go, but we lately are enjoying the new places as well as some of our old repeat favorites.. Oh, and also new is the Jail House pub, at the wailua golf course where we will be having a TA get to gether the first week in November. So the fun and party lights do remain lit for all those heading over, and Kauai still offers plenty of places to eat that will appeal to all different Another spot, we just had a late lunch that many enjoy, is Kauai Pasta on the main road in Lihue. That's it, I promise, or this list will be so long, I will need a publisher. Edited: 10:05 am, October 20, 2011 One destination mentioned in this post Just because its for sale doesn't mean its going out of business. Maybe he just wants to fish around for a buyer. I agree with others that the food is very good, but the acoustics are poor making for conversation difficult. Many restaurants change on Kauai and therefore if you came once and you enjoyed one it doesn't mean it will be there the next year especially the smaller restaurants.
Also changing hands is the Thai Restaurant in Princeville Center. It will soon be chinese. I've heard that the Eastside stopped having music altogether several weeks ago. Sounds like they couldn't afford to pay the musicians.Even if it just changes hands, it may not be as good. We absolutely loved our meal at the Eastside - and the music. I guess I like it loud, because that's what I enjoyed most about Lulu's while visiting Oahu, too.If only I could get financing! There were lots of rumors re Eastside. Who knows how much truth was in any of it. Some said a relative owned the building so he had cheap rent etc etc. My guess is given the marginal experience in the restaurant, they just can't get enough traffic to make all the effort worth while. They have no view, it's hot in summer, there's road noise etc. Same problem with the site across the street that is now the sports bar. Just not that pleasant a spot to eat. Olympic Cafe has it better as they are upstairs where you can see out to the ocean or mountains and the noise level and traffic fumes are less.
The BBQ place had/has the right idea. Turn your back on the highway and look out to the sea if you want to charge people enough to make a living.Besides at Eastside you now stare at the ugly building across the street that is a sports bar. It is too bad, though, because I didn't think it was marginal at all. I thought the chef was creative and the times I went were very good. Yes not the greatest. You pay pretty hefty prices for no view (except the purple and black striped building) but I was pleased a good restaurant came into Kapaa. Hope it sells to someone else creative.
