We’re located at 884 Division Street in Cobourg which is about halfway between Oshawa and Belleville, just 2 minutes (four quick traffic lights) south of the 401. Our store is a full service Christian Bookstore, that is, we carry everything the big stores have, maybe just not so many copies. 

We recently celebrated 21 years in Cobourg, but the business history of Searchlight goes back another 20 years before that. But we’re also a Christian book outlet store. About 80% of the books we receive are red-tagged bargain books, consisting of a mixture of publisher overstock and remainders. That means about half of our sale books are actually still in print at regular price elsewhere. To make the deal even more sweet, we offer an instant rewards program of Buy-4-Get-1-Free (lowest price items in each grouping of five drops out.) What to expect: Cobourg is a small town, so two aisles at the front, three in the middle and one at the back, BUT our store is packed with books. Specialty areas include fiction, family life, marriage and family issues, apologetics, children’s picture books; and we also have giftware, DVDs, greeting cards, boxed cards and a very up-to-date selection of various styles of Christian music on CD. For those who came looking for directions to the bookstore, or were re-directed from Searchlightbooks.ca here’s a map showing where we are at 884 Division Street (on the east side) in Cobourg. We’re at the front of the building. If it’s been awhile: Construction has wrapped up on the new interchange between the 401 and Highway 45 (Division Street). If you’re coming from the west (i.e. Port Hope, Bowmanville, Oshawa, etc.) watch for exit 474-A, before the bridge. (The map below now shows this.) If you’re coming from the east (i.e. Brighton, Trenton, Belleville, etc.) your exit # is the same as it was, 474, but is also before the bridge now. (The map below is still wrong on that one.) Also please note the Ontario Ministry of Transport will NOT allow the 401 sign at exit 474/474-A to say “Division Street” because technically the road is “Baltimore Road” at that point. But to those of us who love this place and call it home, it’s Division Street.
