However, parent company Kinghfisher says it will open a similar number of shops at sister business Screwfix, a trade outlet. The changes were announced as the company posted a 7.5% drop in annual profits to £675 million after sales fell by 1.4% to £11 billion in the year to January 31. B&Q have confirmed six stores that are earmarked for closure - Southampton; Mansfield, Birmingham's Stetchford Road store, Hyde and Barnsley. B&Q are still in the process of telling staff in other stores about closure plans. The company says many staff affected will be re-assigned to its builders' supplies chain Screwfix. The performance was impacted by trading in France, where Castorama and Brico Depot were hit by the weak economy and low consumer confidence. The company currently has stores in mainland China, the Republic of Ireland and Taiwan, as well as the UK.
